Session 1

  • Care and handling of quilts

Session 2
Wednesday, Feb 24, 2010
2 to 4 p.m. @ Appalachian Center at Hickory

  • Hands-on dating of quilts
  • Repairing quilts
  • Approximating the value of quilts; what to look for when buying and selling
  • Capturing the story of your quilts for future generations

Session 3 (Additional)
Wednesday, March 3, 2010
2 to 5 p.m. @ Lee Sewing Center, Hickory (US Hwy 70 between Barnes and Noble and Jason's Deli)

  • How to get started with quilting
  • Notions, supplies and equipment needed
  • Quilting class availability
  • Making your first quilt block/piece (hands-on)

Session 3 is a three-hour, hands-on session at Lee Sewing Center. There is an additional $10 materials fee for this session ($40 for all three sessions); session 3 is NOT available as a stand-alone. If you are interested in trying your hand at quilt-making, this session is for you and you should register for Sessions 1, 2 & 3. If you are NOT interested in hands-on quilting, simply register for sessions 1 and 2 at $30. If you have questions, please call Karen at 828-324-6966, ext. 2008.

Our Workshop Leaders

Sessions 1 and 2: Mary Ann Hopkins has been a quilter for 20 years and has taken many courses on how to date quilts and determine their approximate value. She is an active member of the Catawba Valley Quilters' Guild.

Additional (Hands-On) Session 3: Tammie Lee manages Lee Sewing Center in Hickory, a full-service quilting center, featuring machines, quilting classes, fabrics and supplies.

Registration for Quilts: History, Preservation, Construction is available to adults 18 or over by phone, mail or online through February 10. After February 10, please call Karen at 828-324-6966, ext. 2008.

Cost is $30 for Sessions 1 and 2 only, or $40 for all three sessions. Payment is due at the time of registration and may be made by credit card, check, or PayPal account. NOTE: When registering, click the drop-down arrow next to OPTION to select which sessions you will attend.

Seating is limited for Session 3! Because this session is hands-on, we are limited to 10 participants at a time. If we exceed 10 participants, we will offer alternate dates for the overflow.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your registration on or before February 10. After February 10, no refunds will be given; however, substitutions are welcome. We reserve the right to cancel this event in the case of unforeseen circumstances or low enrollment. If an event is cancelled, a refund of the registration fee will be made.
